Lineage II

Lineage2 is a popular Korean MMO released in the west OCT 1 2003.
The game is EU/Asias World of War Craft. The thing that makes this title so special is that its source code
was leaked many times through out its early development( also the PvP is next level)
Because of this a huge modding community has emerged, that adapts the old source code to keep up the new chronicles.
This has also ignited a massive private community of players that play on modded servers with boosted exp and drop rates,
new items and quests and other advanced mods like in game kill streaks,NPC buffers, custom zones that restrict player limits, types of buffs/gear.
I was fortunate enough to work with multiple server owners over the last few years,
even hosting my own server in 2011, 2013 and working on new project expected later this year (2020).

The types of skills this line of modding touches are :

Remote server hosting    SQL db set up    extender editing     custom scripting     Using custom tools to extract and work with 3D models/Textures in 3Ds max and UE2.

A lot of customization and thought that goes into designing an L2 Server

Settng up and designing full economies

Playing retail, private and Modding my own servers have given me a unique insight into what drives MMO economies.
Here is quick look at some conversion rates for the custom economy on a server I set up. The final product grew from this doc and the implementation can be seen in the Multisell.

Designing Custom Zones

Choosing a custom zone is a huge part of your custom lineage server. The zone is arguably the most important part of server. How you set this up will dictate the daily PvP on your server, which is the best indicator of a servers life time. The key approach here is scarcity in mobs. The outside zones are solo mobs with less rewards, closer to the center you get 3-4 man party mobs with better drops, and then only 3 rooms with the hardest 9man party mobs with the best drops on the server. Players will compete over these spots all day.

Designing Custom Armors

Where most server owners go wrong by making completely imbalanced stuff, I've created a unique set of armors that come with different trade offs. The Titanium and Leviathan is no more OP than the enhanced. Just different use cases and a great deal of notoriety from the visual distinction.

I also recolored all the Top S Vanilla sets to make completely new "enhanced armor" upgrade system.

Custom Buff Cancel

An example of modding a custom zone so players can't use NPC buffs when in it. I applied this to all Epic Raid Boss zones where PvP is most frequent. This encourages active supports, and makes for more interesting metas.

Setting Up a Remote Server

Probably the hardest part of creating a private server, is having to buy and set up a remote Windows 2012 R2 Server

Video Editing

Thanks to Lineage II I learned and became quite good at video editing

Here's a link to some mega nerdy PvP videos I made (I still watch them to this day) .. and you best believe I have more.. ;-)
